Surface inspection of parts

Customers expect accurate products from the manufacturer. Even small surface defects can result in expensive customer complaints independent of whether or not a product function is limited. Manual final inspections are often related with huge effort and a small sampling rate. In most cases these tasks can be automated and made more cost-efficient by the integration of image processing systems.

Typical inspection characteristics are as follows: scratches, striations, bulgings, edge breaks, discolouration, incomplete coatings etc.

Within the area of surface inspection OTTO concentrates its activities on the inspection of single parts. Normally several cameras are used for the data record from different perspectives. In practice a surface inspection is often combined with a dimensional inspection.

The inspection of the parts can be realised „in-line“ or "off-line" in a separate test automat. Within a test automat handling systems are used for part feeding, part positioning in front of the camera, sorting and packaging.
